GETTING STARTED

This guide is designed to help you get going as soon as you receive your EDGE Individual kit

Quick start guide

If you're getting set up for the first time, please continue through this guide to see the full set up process.

Reminder — EDGE units only work outdoors

  1. Turn on the unit
  2. Wait for the light on the unit to change to green — this means a GPS signal has been acquired. (IMPORTANT: This can take around 10 minutes the first time you use the unit)

  4. Fit the EDGE unit into the PlayerData sports vest — make sure the display screen is facing outwards and the PlayerData logo is at the top
  5. Play a match or complete a training session
  6. Use the PlayerData app to create a session and download your data

edge gps unit

Power Button

  • Press the Power Button once to turn the unit on
  • Hold the Power Button down for 3-4 seconds to switch off the unit
  • Holding down the Power Button until the Side LED flashes purple/white performs a hard reset of the unit

Side LED

  • No light = EDGE GPS is off
  • Flashing Blue = EDGE GPS is in the process of turning on
  • Breathing Orange/Red = EDGE GPS is trying to find a GPS connection
  • Breathing/Solid Green = EDGE GPS has a GPS connection and is recording data
  • Solid Blue = Data transfer mode enabled

Side LED (when plugged in to charge)

When plugged into charge the Side Led will display:

  • Solid Red = EDGE GPS is charging
  • Solid Green = EDGE GPS is fully charged
Remember to turn on your EDGE units outdoors — GPS won't connect indoors.
We recommend turning on your unit a few minutes before your session with a clear view of the sky to enable it to connect to global satellites

Logging into the app

  1. You have been sent an email from 'robots@playerdata.com' to confirm your account (check your junk folder if needed)
  2. Click on the link to create your password and tap ‘Save’
  3. Make sure to verify your email address through the confirmation email (this is required to be able to use the app)
  4. Download the PlayerData EDGE App (ensure you have the latest version)
  5. You can now log into the app

If you have an issue signing up please DO NOT retry with a new email - notify us for assistance

  1. Ensure you have the latest version of the app
  2. Complete account set up by filling in date of birth, gender and units of measurement
  3. Tap 'Continue'
  4. Tap 'Scan EDGE unit' to open your camera
  5. Scan the QR Code on the back of your EDGE device

changing unit initials and numbers

  1. Ensure your Bluetooth is on and enabled for use in the app
  2. Turn on your EDGE unit
  3. In the bottom right - tap 'More' on the main navigation
  4. Tap ‘Set EDGE Names’
  5. This will now locate your nearby unit which you have turned on (its default is PD 99)
  6. Enter initials and numbers for the unit. This must be two letters and two numbers to successfully change. (This can be your initials and a two digit squad number or club initials eg. SU 01, TR 02, CM 03 etc)
  7. Tap ‘Save’

pitch setup for matches

  1. Open the app
  2. In the bottom right - tap 'More' on the main navigation
  3. Tap ‘Pitch Setup’
  4. Then tap 'Setup New Pitch' at the bottom of the screen
  5. Type in the name, address or postcode of the pitch and then tap the ‘Next’ button
  6. Name the pitch
  7. Using your fingers, resize the pitch template over the top of the Google maps display
  8. Line up the top and bottom ends of the template over your actual pitch and use the width slider to set the correct width. (Note: Make sure not to overlap the dugouts so you're data doesn't get picked up from the bench if you're substituted during the game)
  9. Tap the ‘Save’ button. (Once tapped, the pitch stencil will revert back to its default position)
  10. You will only need to do this once for your home pitch and all the away pitches you play on throughout the season. By adding pitches the app will generate positional maps data for your matches

EDGE SYNC

Do this after you have completed your session

  1. Ensure that your unit is turned on and nearby
  2. Tap the central '+' icon, and select 'Sync Data’
  3. Your unit will then be auto detected. Once it is detected press "Sync EDGE"
  4. A progress circle will then begin to fill for your syncing unit
  5. Your unit will show a green tick when its sync is complete
  6. Once complete, the system will auto detect when a session took place based on the data your unit has collected

AUTO SESSION DETECTION

After syncing your unit, the system will auto detect when the session took place based on the data your unit has collected

Looking at the suggested session time you can either:

  • Tap on the suggested session to use it

OR

  • Tap 'Or create a new session' to input different session times

creating a Training session

Do this after you have completed your training session

  1. Open the app
  2. Tap the green '+' on the main navigation and then tap 'New Session'
  3. Select ‘Training’ for the session type
  4. Input a ‘Start’ and ‘End’ time of the session
  5. Add any session tags, descriptions or surveys
  6. To complete the process, tap the ‘Finish’ button at the bottom and this will create an empty session, ready for you to add the collected data from your (synced) EDGE unit

CREATING A MATCH SESSION

Do this after you have completed your match session

  1. Open the app
  2. Tap the green '+' on the main navigation and then tap 'New Session'
  3. Select 'Match' for the session type and fill in the date
  4. Input the opponent, score and result of the match
  5. Select the pitch you played on (you can create a new pitch while creating the match session if needed)
  6. Attach any surveys, tags and/or include any description necessary
  7. Input specific ‘Start’ and ‘End’ times for each half/quarter to ensure the breaks in play are cut out correctly
  8. To complete the process, tap the ‘Finish’ button at the bottom and this will create an empty session, ready for you to add the collected data from your (synced) EDGE unit

UPLOADING DATA TO SESSIONS

  1. View any training or match session you have created
  2. On the Overview tab tap the green '+' button
  3. Tap ‘Assign EDGE’
  4. You will then be prompted to assign your EDGE unit (which you have turned on nearby, displaying the initials and numbers you previously set)
  5. Once you have assigned your EDGE unit tap 'CONFIRM ATHLETES'
  6. The data has now been sent for processing, check back on the session in a few minutes to view the data either on your mobile app, or on desktop at app.playerdata.co.uk
FAQ

your questions answered

My EDGE unit is flashing red
The EDGE unit will flash red when it is looking for a GPS signal. Make sure you are outside and in an open space. Your unit can take up to 10 minutes to connect to GPS the first time you use it. Once it has found a GPS signal it will turn green.
How do I put the EDGE unit in the vest?
You should put the EDGE unit into the vest with the display screen facing outward and the PlayerData logo at the top (like in the image below).
My EDGE unit won't connect to GPS
The first time you use the EDGE unit it may take 10 minutes to connect to GPS, make sure you are outside in an open space with an unobstructed view of the sky.
How do I sign into the PlayerData app?
You will receive an email from robots@playerdata.com which will give you a link to follow to our app to set up your account. This will allow you to sign in and set up your account.
Can I change what units my metrics are measured in?
Yes, in the app you can choose your unit of measurement by going to 'More' and then 'Edit Profile' and scrolling down to 'Units of Measurement'. This will give you the option to choose from (m,km and kph), (yd,mi,mph) & (m,km,m/s).
Can I edit a training session after I've created it?
Yes, if you need to edit the time in a training session this can be done by going into the training session and pressing the settings cog in the top right corner. This will allow you to edit any part of that session.
Does my EDGE unit pick up data if I'm substituted during a game?
During a match session, data will only be recorded within the pitch boundaries you've set up, data shouldn't be collected from the subs bench if the pitch is set up correctly.
