DAVIDSON MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CHOOSE PLAYERDATA

Davidson basketball will leverage groundbreaking portable LPS system.

This summer, we launched two revolutionary sports performance tracking products: the Edge Air and a portable Local Positioning System (LPS).

These products have firmly brought us into basketball, and we’re pleased to share that Davidson College men’s and women’s basketball are now utilizing this new this technology.

“We’ve been really impressed with PlayerData’s technology and service,” said Austin Buntz, General Manager of Davidson College’s men’s and women’s basketball programs. “We now have a solution that allows us to efficiently track essential performance data in basketball. We’re excited for what this means for our student-athletes and our staff going forward.”

LPS + IMU

By utilizing our new Edge Air units, Davidson will be able to track IMU data straight out of the box. This means they can accurately track metrics including workload, jumps, accelerations, and decelerations.

Additionally, Davidson will be installing PlayerData’s groundbreaking portable LPS system into both men’s and women’s practice facilities and their home arena. Our LPS system is FIFA Quality approved, meeting the highest standard of accuracy.

By setting up the LPS beacons indoors and pairing them with the Edge Air units, Davidson can accurately track additional metrics including distance and speed — all without needing access to an outdoor GPS satellite signal.

BASKETBALL LPS SYSTEM ORIGINS

PlayerData’s mission since our inception has been to democratize performance data to unlock potential in sports. In our early years, our focus was on grassroots soccer pitches across the UK. We’ve since expanded across the globe and into multiple sports.

From the jump, we saw a major gap in basketball, an indoor sport where you cannot access a satellite GPS signal.

Existing solutions have been clunky, expensive, and/or inaccurate.

So, we set out to build something that could deliver on the following:

📏 Market-leading accuracy

⏱️ Simple to set up

🎒Easily transportable

💰 Accessible price point.

This was a significant undertaking. And after years of building, we did it.

Over the past several months, we’ve had some of the top programs in the world quietly using our Edge Air LPS system. While we’ve known its effectiveness in closed doors testing, it was quite a thrill setting the system up at the likes of AT&T Stadium and seeing it work on one of the biggest stages of the summer.

Our founder Roy Hotrabhvanon shows off a portable LPS beacon during accuracy testing.

While other LPS systems on the market require fixed installations, significant financial investment (around $100,000), a specific computer to operate, and track limited amounts of athletes, the PlayerData LPS system is rechargeable, portable, and user-friendly — the data is easily accessible straight from a phone, tablet, or computer. It can also track an unlimited number of athletes, and the entire system fits in the water bottle pouch of a backpack

This isn't just a new product; it's a solution to a long-standing problem for basketball coaches and players.
